- [Instructor] We've outlined several major categories of visualizations which line up overall with the categories on the visual vocabulary, but there are other things to keep in mind when picking a visual for your data. And you can see just by looking at the visual vocabulary that I didn't even mention two of the categories: change over time and deviation. That's because these two often overlap with the other categories so much that I tend to think of them as other factors to consider when visualizing for another primary task like comparison or correlation, although this isn't always the case. A line chart with a single line on it shows change over time for that one variable really well. So that's not a comparison or other type of task. If the main thing is to allow your audience to see a trend, it's a fantastic visual to use. But sometimes you do have more than one line, and the goal is to compare trends to each other.…
