Setting a vision

Setting a vision

- In her book, "Resonate," Nancy Duarte goes through techniques to create a vision to spark change. One of the techniques she talks about is creating contrasts. Contrasts are the ability to separate the current reality with a vision for the future. A vision is one of the most challenging things to do when you're telling a data story. A story that contrasts the present with the future needs a great deal of trust. No one's going to want to go on your new quest with you if they don't trust that you know where you're going. That's why the first thing you want to do is help establish your own credibility. One way to do that is with the EVA approach. EVA stands for engagement, vision, and authenticity. When setting a vision, you'll want to engage your audience. You can use a lot of techniques you've already seen to draw them into your story. If you can't show them an intriguing story, they won't be motivated to change. Remember to focus on an interesting plot and create strong characters…
