- There are several great resources on data visualization. One of them is "The Visual Display of Quantitative Information" by Edward Tufte. This book takes a very tactical view of storytelling. He talks about how great visuals can create great stories. Data visualization books are terrific, but they overstate the importance of charts and reports. Visualizations enhance your story, but the narrative is what truly connects the audience to its deeper meaning. Your data visualizations can also be a distraction. Every time you show a new image, it takes some time for people to process the information. They need time to make sense of the data. That's why you need to be very conservative with how much data you display. These books give you a lot of great ideas on maximizing data while minimizing clutter.
