- [Instructor] Let's perform an area takeoff. I'm on a floor finish plan and you'll notice there's a finish location key and it tells you what all of these abbreviations mean for each one of these rooms. The top box is the wall finish. The middle one is for the base, what type of base it is and the color. And the bottom tells what the floor type is. Maybe I want to measure some carpet. I'm going to find a couple easy rooms to measure. These rectangle ones will do. Now, in order to get area you know that you need two measurements and you need to multiply them. So you could easily take a normal measurement, like so. You'll get 13 foot 11 inches and seven foot and a quarter inch, and you could easily multiply them and get the area. It's going to look something like this. Area equals length times width. The length was 13 foot 11 inches, and the width was seven foot seven and a quarter inches. We're going to transition…
