About computerized estimating
- [Instructor] Some estimators estimate by hand. That's to say they use the pen and paper method with worksheets, calculators, and marking tools. They read the drawings and specifications perform their takeoff, and transpose their estimating data onto written sheets. I call this the longhand method of estimating. Some estimators use computers to assist them with estimating. There are computer software programs developed with the primary purpose of collecting, organizing, adding, and multiplying all of the takeoff information. The benefit of using computerized estimating software is that the math will be flawless. Computers do not make math mistakes like humans do. There are even programs developed, so the estimator can view the drawings and specifications on their computer screen, and even perform takeoff on the computer screen.
