3D scanning

3D scanning

- [Instructor] 3D scanning is a versatile tool for creating digital content for 3D printing. In this video I'll introduce three main types of 3D scanning hardware, and then talk about common uses for 3D scans. The first method of 3D scanning is called photogrammetry. All you need is a camera. Even a tablet or phone will work. You start by taking photos of an object, moving slowly in a circle, capturing from both high and low angles. Photogrammetry processes the photo set, using triangulation to extrapolate a 3D mesh from the two-dimensional photographs. It's a great way to scan an object without special equipment and produce both a 3D mesh and a UV map that includes color. Another type of 3D scanning is laser triangulation. It works by projecting a rectilinear laser beam on the surface of a 3D object. A camera analyzes the deformation of the laser beam and software triangulates and extrapolates a 3D mesh. These scanning…
