- Leadership messages typically don't create excellence directly. They do, however, align individual talents, set the tempo, and help convert diverse efforts into successful outcomes. This also applies to your Lean Daily Management System. I have found that no matter how well-designed your LDMS is, its success depends quite a bit on the work done by leadership. For example, as a leader, avoid managing from a conference room or from your desk. You need to be out there, seeing the work firsthand, and also ensuring people see you. By showing up at daily huddles, asking questions and listening, your presence sends a powerful message that encourages daily management and that you're there to support the people doing the work. Does this sound like going to the Gemba, the place where the work happens? I think so, and you'll be making better decisions by basing them on direct observations, not just data or reports.
