Five pillars make a system

- [Narrator] Think of the 5S, Siri, Seitan, Seiso, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke, as a system or a set of elements or pillars working together instead of a list of separate ones. Each pillar is interdependent with the others and it takes all the pillars working together for 5S to give you the results you expect in safety, productivity, and efficiency. For example, it makes little sense to clean or set things in order before opening up an adequate space by removing unnecessary or obsolete items through sorting. Setting things in order predefines the areas that will have to be kept clean. And with the shine pillar, some teams have included activities that help identify items that are becoming obsolete, starting to clutter, and required to be sorted out. It's like a mini loop or subsystem of three pillars, which is often referred to as the 3S, which comprises the actual physical work required to maintain a clean and orderly…
