Give yourself an honest performance review

- To lead yourself, you must know yourself. You've probably experienced performance reviews or a more optimistically framed equivalent from your boss or HR. Typically these traditional reviews assess your job performance on a basic level. Are you meeting the competencies? Where are you falling short? Is your salary fair? But when you evaluate yourself, you want to look more introspectively. At a more nuanced set of categories. First, how are you feeling? Not are you sick or not, but how are you feeling about work? What's your motivation level? When are you the most motivated? How do you feel about your relationship with your boss? Emotions matter. They affect your performance. After you assess your emotional state at work, think about how you can optimize it. For example, if you realize that you're motivated by talking with customers, how can you make sure you're interacting with them on a more regular basis?
