- Something I've seen play out in more than a few consulting projects is that an executive leader has a complaint about the organization. "People don't collaborate." "People don't communicate." "People don't innovate." And seeing that has prompted them to call an outside consultant like me to extrapolate out why people are acting like that and how to fix it. And in the vast majority of cases, the executive is right about what they observed, and they're guilty of it too. The call is coming from inside the house. The person complaining that no one takes initiative is often the person who hung up the red tape. The person griping about a lack of collaboration is usually the person who broke down KPIs so granularly that no one shares any metrics. And it's not just executives. We all judge ourselves by our intentions, and we judge others by their actions.
