- What was the first organization you were ever a part of? Your family. Parents were your first bosses, siblings your first colleagues. Many of the dynamics you experienced growing up in your family are no different when you join a workplace. In fact, management guru Warren Bennis says, quote, "our original notions of an institution, authority structure and power, are all forged in the family" end quote. Let's look closer at this. Consider these characteristics of a happy family. They make heartfelt connections with one another, show warmth, and interest to connect. Openly and honestly communicate with one another. Watch each other's back and have a sense of "we're all in this together." Are fiercely committed to and support one another, help each other grow. Share goals and values. Uphold family codes.
