Emotional intelligence begins with you. The best way to understand EQ is through the five core components. Here they are: Self-awareness, Self-management or self-regulation, Empathy, Motivation, and Social skills. Self-Awareness is about recognizing and understanding your core character, which includes the Feelings, Values, Thoughts, and Beliefs you experience. Self-awareness helps you determine how to manage yourself in a proactive and reactive manner. And know this, self-awareness is informed by others. This means recognizing and perceiving how others see us and of immense importance, receiving feedback from people we trust. Seek out specific feedback from your colleagues that helps to validate and improve the way you do things.
