- If I could give you just one piece of advice to make meetings better, virtually or face-to-face, it would be to determine your desired outcome first. In short, don't meet if you don't have one. A desired outcome is a short, clear statement of what success looks like for this meeting. I like to write them in noun, verb, past tense format. Here are some examples. Budget approved, plans set, decision reached, next steps determined. And once they're written, they need to be shared with all participants before the meeting begins. Statements like these are crystal clear and help all attendees in two specific ways. When we have these statements in advance, we can be better prepared to participate and engage.
