Understanding motivational blindness

- You know, when you look at why leaders let ethical issues come about, there's a number of different reasons for that certainly. But one that the "Harvard Business Review" actually talks about is called blindness. When you see things, but some of it you take and some of it you discard. So you see something like a potential ethics violation, you see this, this, this, and you go, "Oh, maybe that's a problem. Or maybe it isn't." You know, and then you decide to walk away from it because you're not sure. That's blindness. There are things that are going to be inconvenient or uncomfortable, and you really don't want it to be true, so you assume it's not, and just sort of set it aside. Okay? The reality of the situation, is if there is something that is a potential ethics issue, you need to address it. Blindness can take a number of different factors.
