- I'm really excited about how this image turned out. And the first thing I see is something that I think is really important to share, and that's the idea of dynamic range and shooting in raw. I really want to emphasize the reason to photographing raw is you get the most information in which to edit the image. Also, the dynamic range of the Sony A7R Mark II and the main reason I use the camera is to be able to capture deep shadows and bright highlights in one frame. Let's take a look at the histogram with this image. And I'm going to go ahead and hit the J key. And the J key puts a box around my shadows and my highlights. And anything colored blue means loss of detail. We see a little bit of blue up in the palm trees there. Okay. Just to emphasize that point, if I were to bring the black slider down, you would see a lot of blue. Okay, now let's look for the color red. And we would see it somewhere in the clouds, and I don't see it. That alone amazes me but let me show you what it…
