absolute beginner season 1 lesson 2 tell me what you have in korean today we are going to learn how to buy books ok and this conversation takes place at a bookstore and the conversation is between a customer and a worker right and the speakers are strangers so they will be speaking formal korean alright well let's listen to the conversation 아니요 영어사전 있어요 출의소설 있어요? 미스테리? 없어요 판타지 있어요? 아니요 공상과학 소설 있어요 영어로 한 번 더 one more time with the english 한국어사전 있어요? do you have a korean dictionary? 아니요 영어사전 있어요 no we have an english dictionary 출의소설 있어요? do you have a mystery book? 미스테리? 없어요 mystery? no 판타지 있어요? do you have fantasy? 아니요 공상과학 소설 있어요 no we have science fiction first word is 한국어 korean 한-국-어 한국어 next is 영어 한국어 english 영-어 영어 next 사전 dictionary 사-전 사전 after that 소설 novel 소-설 소설 next 출의소설 mystery novel 출-이-소-설 출의소설 출-이-소-설 after that after mystery 미스테리 mystery 미-스-테-리 mystery next 판타지 fantasy 판-타-지 판타지 and finally 공상과학 science fiction 공상과학 공상과학 the focus of this lesson is 있다 right this is a very essential verb in korean 네 맞습니다 it is really really really important because it expresses existence and you know what a lot of things in this world exist 네 you are existing I am existing yes this verb shouldn't be confused with the korean copular 이-다 right the verb 있다 can be used to express existence location or possession kids everyone here are absolute beginners so this is too much grammar okay I warn you okay warning take it into consideration so in this lesson we'll be focusing on using 있다 to express possession meaning you know someone has something 있다 네 있다 can be used to say to have yep for example do you have an iphone? 아이폰 있어요? well 미선 do you iphone 있어요? 없어요 what about you? 저도 없어요 moving on 있다 is the dictionary form for this word yep and in korean there's always a bunch of conjugations 네 but since everyone is an absolute beginner as I told you we'll give everyone the simplest and easiest way to express that you have something possession first is how it came out in today's dialogue 있어요? do you have? and this is being polite the formal what about being informal? we can just drop 요 at the end so it becomes 있어 and that's the same translation do you have? but this one's a little more informal yes so in this conversation there was a few examples yep 한국어 사전 있어요? do you have a korean dictionary? 영어 사전 있어요? we have an english dictionary 추리 소설 있어요? do you have a mystery book? 판타지 있어요? do you have fantasy? 공상 과학 소설 있어요? we have science fiction and if you noticed what they have always comes in front exactly in front of 있어요 so if I have a novel novel would come first 네 소설 and then would come the verb 있어요 so 소설 있어요 I have a novel okay let's go over some sample sentences to wrap this up 남자친구 있어요 I have a boyfriend I Iphone 있어요 do you have an Iphone so notice how the thing that you have or possess comes in front and then after 있어요 네
