Let's build a Proxmox penetration testing lab. The first thing to do when setting up our lab is to install an operational Proxmox node into which we can load virtual machines. To do that, we need to have the Proxmox installer available as a bootable system on a USB stick. Let's download a Proxmox image from the website shown here. We'll download the Proxmox VE Version 8 ISO Installer. Once we have that, the next thing we need to do is to burn it as a bootable image onto a USB stick. We can do that with the Rufus tool, which we can download from the site shown here. I have that downloaded already, so let's go burn. We have a USB stick ready to be set up. We'll select the correct drive from the dropdown at the top, checking very carefully that it is in fact our USB device. We can then click "Select" and navigate to our Proxmox image that we've downloaded. We'll make a small change to the volume label, PVE8.
