From the course: Job Interview Tips for Software Engineers
Overview of software engineering roles
- Hi, my name is Nishant Bhajaria, and I've led engineering, product, and security teams for the better part of the last decade. I've hired many engineers, product managers, and others over my career, and as a LinkedIn author, I get to come to the other side of the table and play the role of career coach. I've been an engineer who's missed out on roles, and often gotten roles without understanding in either case what the deciding factor was. As a hiring manager, I've encountered candidates who seem like they would be awesome at the job, I just knew it, but somehow, they failed to make their case during that critical interview. Besides my background in the tech sector, I've been a debater and a writer, and bring those communication skills as I lead large organizations that span business lines, countries, and cultures. This course will help engineers explain their work, their thought process, what they have learned, their trade-offs, their coding skills, their execution skills, and their ability to build solid technical products. Being able to fuse all of these skills into a narrative that makes sense to someone who was not there at that moment is critical in interviews. Remember, an interview is about compressing years, maybe a lifetime of work, into those crucial 30 or 60 minutes. This course will help with that. This course will offer examples of questions, what signals the interviewer is looking for, and of course, those answers that will help provide the best view of your skills so that you can get that job that I know you deserve to get, and that I know you will be awesome at.
