There are several ways to get JIRA to do things for you automatically, and these various features can overlap, duplicating the same automation effects, but can also be complementary. Let's get an understanding of the basic options before we dive into demonstration. The latest way to perform automations in JIRA is the built-in JIRA Automation feature. has gradually rolled out this feature over the past 3 years or so, and it's available in both Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud. This feature allows you to define automation rules, and is available both globally, so cross-project automations, and at the project level. Project level rules can be created and maintained by project administrators, which is great. You don't need to be an overall Jira administrator to automate aspects of a particular project.
