Now that we have some idea of how to customize boards in Jira, let's take a look at creating additional boards from scratch, an option some Jira users don't even realize is possible. Why might we need any additional boards than what a project gets to begin with at project creation time? Probably the most common reason is a desire to have a board that shows work in progress from multiple projects in JIRA at the same time. Initiatives that involve multiple teams and multiple projects occur frequently in the business world, so wanting to see the progress of a set of related projects in one view is also a common need, and JIRA can do that in several ways, one of which is a multi-project board. The default board you get for a single project in JIRA only shows issues from that project. You can change that by modifying the board's filter, as we just saw in board configuration.
