- [Instructor] We have used the term LoWPAN to refer to the type of wireless PANs, targeting at a low-rate and very low-power applications as there are other wireless PANs targeting at high-rate applications. Its main features are listed here. A LoWPAN usually consists of low-power, low-cost devices. For example, the microprocessor, radio module, sensors or actuators usually on an IoT device need to be kept at a low cost and to run in a power-saving mode. A LoWPAN usually offers low bit rates on a communication link. These implies the applications requiring a fast and high-rate communication link, such as high-resolution video streaming cannot be supported while in the LoWPAN. Similar to a wireless PAN, a LoWPAN usually operates in unlicensed frequency bands. With the above features, a LoWPAN can support low-power IoT applications.
