Let's start by setting the scene with what the reason is that we would want to even perform a semantic search. Imagine you are trying to find a very vintage magic card. Maybe it's a Black Lotus, who cares? So you go on something like eBay or goodwill and you type in a vintage magic card in quotes, let's say that's why that's what you type in now what you expect to see are Magic cards right trading cards what you would not expect to see is a vintage magic kit Which you know an old kit for performing magic Although a vintage magic kit has three out of four words in common from a vintage magic card, whereas magic card is a match, but only has two words technically that match. Now in a modern system, we would definitely see the magic cards and not the vintage magic kit, but one of the reasons that's true is because many of these search engines are doing along the way some form of semantic search.
