In BIM, what information are you talking about?
- [Instructor] The important part of the BIM acronym is the I in Information. What type of information are we talking about here? The broad definition of information is a collection of fact from which conclusions may be drawn. More precisely, the ISO 19650 definition is information is an interpretable representation of data in a formalized manner suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing. Also this information can be processed by a human or automatic means. Information is classified in two categories, structured and unstructured information. Structured information include geometrical models, schedules, and database. Unstructured information is documentation, video, and sound. So if we look at a project and its information, we will have what we commonly call a BIM model. The BIM model is, by definition, the combination of all structured and unstructured information.
