- [Instructor] Migrating to the cloud requires some careful planning if you want to get it done right and with as little aggravation as possible. So let's explore a good roadmap for moving into the cloud. First up is to get educated. You want to calculate potential savings, get a rough picture of your current infrastructure and calculate equivalent costs in the cloud. First, get the CPU and memory footprint of your current machines as well as your current bandwidth usage. Then look up prices at providers like Rackspace Cloud and Amazon EC2, where you can verify any savings, typically 50 to 70% less than what you're paying for hosting now. That could provide you with the ammunition you need to get the green light. Next, assess your security. Assess which parts of your application, typically databases, must either reside in-house or at a managed host.
