- You're sold. Computer programming is the career for you, but you may wonder, what are the different types of jobs available? Within the industry, there are dozens of paths that you can pursue. In this video, I will share five of the most popular programming jobs to date. First up is a software application developer. Software developers create software applications that may include programs built for a specific task or those used in operating systems. Their job involves the design, testing and troubleshooting of software to meet the needs of various users. Several programming languages are commonly used, such as Java, Python, C++, C# and Ruby.
