What is an AI agent?
From the course: Introduction to Agentic AI in 5G: Smarter Autonomous Networks
What is an AI agent?
In 1997, the IBM's Deep Blue beat the Gary Kasparov H.S. It could calculate millions of moves per second, but it couldn't order a pizza. In 2023, an AI agent not only plans your vacation, but book your flights, reserve the hotel for you, and adjust the itinerary based on the changes in the weather and rebooks if the flight cancels. And all this happens autonomously. So this isn't just better software, it is a fundamentally different kind of system. Let's start with what is an AI agent?. It is a software entity that perceives its environment. It reasons about what it perceives and then take actions to achieve the goals and then learn from the outcomes. Unlike traditional programs that follow fixed instruction like in generative AI that produces content, agent makes decision and take initiative. They are not just tools, they are digital workers with autonomy and purpose. Agent exists on spectrum of complexity. At a simple end, A reactive agent might monitor network performance and then…
