It's important to think about data design before you begin to clean or transform your data as design needs will vary based on your audience, use case, and performance needs. There are a few key questions that you should ask yourself before you start preparing your data. First, you should think about who your end user or audience is that will be consuming the data. Is the data going to be utilized by analysts, managers, or executives? How many users are going to need access to the data sets that you're creating? Is it going to be tens, hundreds, or thousands of users? Another important topic to consider, what purpose or use case is the data designed to support?
