How to answer product estimation questions
- Of all of the question formats in product management interviews, the most infamous is the product estimation question. These questions gained a lot of notoriety after they were featured in mainstream media articles about Google's hiring practices several years back. Sometimes called brainteasers, the format of the question is usually something like how many X could Y or how many X does Y do? Although these types of questions are typically found at technology intensive companies like Google, understanding them is extremely relevant to product management. One question you may have heard before is how many golf balls would fit in a school bus? Just like product creation questions, the purpose of this isn't to see if you get the correct answer, but rather to test your ability to make quick and educated estimations.
