Your well-being is your priority

- I can't stress enough how important your wellbeing is to your success as a leader. As a young professional, I was so eager to make a great impression and show I had what it took to be a contributing team member. I had such a drive, a little too much drive, so much drive that I ended up neglecting my wellbeing. That decision sent me into overdrive, which caused burnout. I don't want this to happen to you, so I'm going to share three amazing ways you can keep your wellbeing a top priority, be successful, and avoid burnout. First, listen to your body. You know those headaches that only come when you're stressed or that issue you have sometimes with not being able to sleep because you're thinking about the next workday or reliving the day over and over again in your mind. Bottom line, your body will tell you when you need to slow down or relax. Listen to it so you can remain consistent in being successful. Next, listen to your heart. Your heart is where your values and morals live. When you get that uneasy feeling, take the time to seek out why you have those feelings. Taking time for you is imperative so you can lead and be a stellar team player. Finally, have fun. Yes, the work you do is important, so of course you want to focus and do your best. But take time to slow down and relax. For instance, before meetings, suggest an icebreaker. There's plenty of ideas online. Laugh with coworkers. You can even take a walk. Whatever you choose, choose you and have some fun. Doing so will keep you energized and motivated. Ultimately, you have to make the time. Knowing something is a problem is not the same as addressing the problem. Find what works for you and make it a priority. Remember, what gets scheduled gets done. So check on yourself right now. Pay attention to your heartbeat, your muscles. Are they tight? At the end of the day, just take inventory of your body and your mind right now and make a plan to take action. What can you do in the next 24 hours to address your wellbeing? Only you can answer and take action on that question.
