- [Instructor] Now I'll show you how you can override the active unit of measure, not only inside the New Document dialogue box, but throughout the various numerical fields that are available inside Illustrator. And so I'll go up to the File menu and choose the New command. And then I'm going to switch the unit of measure to its default, which is points. Now, even though I happen to love points, I don't find them especially useful when setting large values. For example, let's say I want the width of my document to be eight inches. While I could enter some basic arithmetic, for example, I could type eight times 72 because I know there's 72 points in an inch, and then press the Tab key, I would never know off the top of my head that eight inches is the same thing as 576 points, which is why I can go ahead and double click on that value to select it.
