- [Deke] All right. In this movie, we're going to get into some pretty arcane territory. And so if that doesn't interest you, feel free to skip to the next movie. The thing is this is an advanced course, and so I want you to understand exactly what's going on under the hood. And so the idea is that the exclude operation, if you think about it, applied to a compound shape is a lot like an old-school compound path. Now, you may recall compound paths from chapter seven of the fundamentals course, but if not, let me show you how they work. I'll go ahead and partially marquee these two circles right here. And then I'll right-click anywhere inside the document window and choose make compound path. Or, I want to show you another way to work, you can go to the object menu, drop all the way down to compound path, and then choose make, which is a lot less convenient, of course, but it demonstrates that we have a keyboard…
