- [Instructor] When I use the phrase, ideation tactics, all I'm talking about is how you can think about any topic or theme to help you isolate and compare information that leads to creative and clever iconic designs. Again, we turn to master designer, Saul Bass, and his time-tested, insightful quote, "Design is thinking made visual." So design is more than merely graphic elements. It first starts with how you think. And what do we use to formulate our thoughts? Of course, we use our brain, but icon design is all about taking complex forms and simplifying them down. We might simplify this complex image of a brain into this literal iconic design. But how else could you quantify the idea of thinking? Maybe it's a circuit board with left and right hemispheres, or the classic light bulb for having an idea.
