- There's one key question that you need to ask yourself to determine whether the CIPP/US certification is right for you. Will information privacy play an important role in your career? There are a few categories of people who likely answer yes to this question. The first and most obvious group is people who are currently serving in privacy roles. If you spend a significant amount of your time working in the privacy field, the CIPP/US program will help you better understand your job and the role of privacy in the private sector. Whether you're a privacy attorney, an IT professional, or a chief privacy officer, there's plenty in the curriculum that you can learn. Many people also pursue the CIPP certification when they're hoping to move into a privacy role. Perhaps you're a business analyst and you'd like to move into your organization's privacy office, or maybe you're an attorney seeking a new specialization or an IT professional interested in privacy issues. The CIPP can help give you the edge that you need to stand out from other internal applicants when a role on the privacy team opens up. Finally, consultants also pursue CIPP certification, especially those who work in privacy, cybersecurity. and risk consulting. The CIPP demonstrates to current and potential clients that you have the breadth of knowledge and the experience to back up your work. So is the CIPP/US for you? If you fit into one of the three categories I just discussed, it's likely that you'll learn a lot during the process that will benefit your career, and the credential will better position you for your next opportunity.
