International data transfers

- Multinational organizations must often transfer data across international borders as part of their standard business practices. In those cases, international regulations may provide specific requirements regarding the allowable transfers and use of that information. Let's talk about a couple of very significant international regulations. First, I've already mentioned the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, a few times. GDPR is a broad privacy law that regulates the handling of almost all personal information related to EU residents. US companies who do business in Europe or with EU residents must be familiar with GDPR and implement controls designed to avoid violations of the law. This is a particular concern when transferring information across international borders.
