Exam tips

- I've helped literally thousands of people prepare for certification exams, and I'm glad that you've decided to follow this same journey. Over my years in the field, I've heard feedback from many different people who've taken the exam, and I'm glad to be able to offer you some of the knowledge that I've gained in this course. As I've worked with students, I've noticed quite a few trends in the way that exam writers formulate questions and focus on specific topics that lend themselves to test questions. I've also picked up on the ways that question writers try to trick students into choosing the wrong answer choices. I've worked that knowledge into this course. Whenever we cover a topic that has some tricky information or details that I think you need to know for the exam, I'll call it out using an exam tip. When you're watching this course, keep an eye out for the screen with this graphic. When you see it, pay careful attention because I'm about to share with you some of the knowledge that I've gained that will help you succeed on the exam. As you take the exam, you should also have some common test taking strategies in mind. Here are a few tips that can help you achieve the highest score that you can on the test. First, there is no penalty for incorrect answers. If you have no clue about a particular question, guess. If you're selecting from four choices, you have a 25% chance of getting it correct. If you're able to eliminate just one incorrect answer, your odds increase to 33%. Second, if you get stuck on a question, mark it for later and move on to the next question. At two and a half hours in duration, this exam is a marathon, not a sprint. Finally, make at least three passes through each section of the exam during the 75 minutes allotted to that section. Taking a quick first run through the questions and knocking out the easy ones will build your confidence and help you get a feel for the contents of the entire section. During your second run through, try to answer every question in the section and then your third pass through the section will help you clean up any errors that you might have made answering other questions during the first and second passes might also jar your memory and help you answer questions that were sticking points earlier. Now, these tips certainly aren't a substitute for a strong understanding of the material, but they just might help you eek out those last few points that you need to push you over the edge to a passing score.
