- Marketing activities involve substantial amounts of personal information, and for this reason, privacy professionals have an obligation to assist their organization with complying with ethical principles when the organization conducts marketing activities, including digital advertising. One framework for better understanding these obligations is the Privacy Management Framework, or PMF. The PMF outlines nine components commonly agreed to as the foundation of data ethics. The first PMF component is management. This principle states that an organization handling private information should have policies, procedures, and governance structures in place to protect privacy.
