Antidiscrimination laws

- A variety of federal laws prohibit discrimination in the employment relationship. These laws cover discrimination against different categories of individuals. The exam requires that you be familiar with three different anti-discrimination laws. Title VII on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, or religion. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 makes it illegal to discriminate against individuals with disabilities in a variety of settings, including employment. To be protected by the ADA, you must meet the requirements for a job and also be able to perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodations. The final law that you need to know for the exam is the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, or GINA.
