Access to communications

- Today, we leave a digital trail wherever we go. From telephone calls to emails, we communicate in a variety of ways, and the providers of those services have records showing who we communicated with, when we communicated, and in some cases, the contents of our communications. Those records are, of course, of great interest to law enforcement investigators. As with financial records, there are special laws and regulations governing law enforcement access to communication records. The Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution is the overarching law covering government access to information about us.
