Creating healthy team culture: Rules of engagement
- Being on time to meetings, texting versus calling, even how inclusive teammates are in communicating on projects. It's little actions that go unnoticed or ignored by some, but make a huge difference to others that erode our ability to collaborate well. Making commitments to show up in intentional ways and agreeing to rules of engagement is a team-building activity I facilitate for all kinds of teams, and it's particularly helpful for hybrid teams, especially those who are interdependent or experiencing difficulty working together. I typically run this exercise in two parts over a few weeks. First, I introduce the concept of rules of engagement with the team. I give them examples and I invite them to observe the behaviors that they see within the team that contribute to or get in the way of the team's success.
