Using the Role Play feature in LinkedIn Learning

- [Host] Navigating tough workplace conversations can be challenging, but LinkedIn Learning's AI powered role play feature makes it easier to practice and build confidence. Let me show you how it works. To access this feature, I'm going to go to the side navigation bar and then to the content tab. This will bring me to the different libraries, business technology, creative. I want to go to the business library, and underneath this are these different showcase pages. I want to go to the leadership and management one. Now this seems a little confusing on how to get there, but that's because these role-play scenarios are for leadership and management. So I'm going to click here on explore, and here it says, practice with AI powered role plays, and you can see different scenarios. You also have ones that are beginner, some that are intermediate, and others that are advanced, and they also give an approximate time of how long it will take. Here you have review a high performer, give feedback on prioritization, set improvement goals for an under performer. I can go here and click to the next one speaking up too much in meetings, feedback on presentation skills and more. And each of them have this little explanation that goes with it. Now, if there's one I want to choose, say, giving feedback on presentation skills, I can do that by clicking on start role play. Now, once I do this, it will bring me to the setup page. Here you'll find key details about the conversations such as roles, goals, and instructions. I can see that it's a colleague struggling to prepare for a presentation, provide empathetic feedback to help improve their presentation skills. The goals are to ask what they would like feedback on, give concrete suggestions and use supportive language. Now I can go ahead if I want to get started and click start in the bottom right, I'll be having this conversation with. - [Speaker] Hello Oliver. I appreciate you taking. - [Host] Now as I enter here, you'll see that I can begin talking, and that is one way to have a conversation and do this role play. You have the ability to either use voice or text. Now in this case, I'm going to switch to text just because it'll be easier for this example. Now when I do, this is Sam, the AI talking. Hello, Oliver, I appreciate you taking the time to help me with my presentation. Now on this, the AI dynamically adjusts its responses based on what you say, creating a realistic and interactive conversation. So I'm going to go down and ask a follow-up question here. So I put here, hello, Sam, not a problem. How are you feeling about the presentation? I'll send that and then Sam will reply, here, it says, I'm feeling a bit too nervous to be honest, I'm not sure if my points are clear enough or if I'm covering everything I need to. Okay, well, I'm going to give some feedback here. Okay, so I now I'm saying here that it's normal to feel nervous. I wouldn't worry too much about it. You've always been great at presentations. And then I just said that I would recommend going over the presentation a couple times to make sure you have everything you want to touch on. I'm going to go ahead and send that. And then Sam says, thanks Oliver. I appreciate the encouragement. Could you maybe point out a couple of specific areas where you think I could improve or focus on? I'll go down here and give my follow up response. My feedback is just to keep the slides simple and easy to understand. I'm going to send this back and then Sam will reply. So essentially I'm having this conversation. I'm going to go up and finish the conversation. So now at the end it says, that's a good idea, Oliver. I'll practice with a friend and see if they have any feedback. Thank you for all of your suggestions and support. I feel more prepared now. So my conversation with Sam is complete. When I'm done, I'll click on end session and then it's going to analyze the conversation and generate some insight and feedback. And here we have it. When the session ends, you'll receive personalized feedback on your strengths, areas of improvement and LinkedIn Learning course recommendations to help you close skill gaps. You'll see here that I have my strengths, empathy and emotional intelligence, actionability of feedback, et cetera. I also have some areas of improvement, expectations, setting to start the meeting, specificity and clarity of feedback, and it gives me some information there, which is very interesting. That's very helpful to get that feedback. Now, below this, it says detailed feedback from your transcript, and it even lists some of the specific things that I said, and then gives its feedback on that kind of saying sometimes that it may be too wordy or it may not come across the right way. You can see here they're giving me feedback on different parts of my conversation. Then at the bottom is that personalized content recommended on this. Also, keep in mind that your session transcripts are private. They're not shared with other employers or other LinkedIn members. If you want to learn more about the role play feature and everything you can do with it, I recommend checking out the help article in the LinkedIn Learning Help Center.
