Practice real-world conversations with AI-powered role-play scenarios
- Have you ever wished you could practice a difficult workplace conversation at work before it actually happens? Maybe giving tough feedback to a teammate, handling a challenging client meeting, or navigating a sensitive performance review. Now you can practice workplace conversations with the AI-powered role play feature. Think of it like having a practice partner available anytime, anywhere. This AI technology creates realistic workplace conversation scenarios where you can speak naturally and get real-time responses, just like talking to a real person, but without any pressure or judgment. There are several options for accessing AI-powered role play in LinkedIn Learning. Let me show you how. So to navigate to AI-powered role play, you click on AI Role Play in the left navigation. And you'll see a new screen appears. Now, I can practice any role play conversation that I can dream up by typing it in the box here, or I can select an example from below. I want to handle a challenging customer, so I'm going to click on this one and click Create role play. It is going to go ahead and build a role play for me to practice. Now, on this screen, you'll see a lot of details about the role play that it automatically generated for me. Details about what this conversation is about, so this gives you a little context, what makes it successful, this is the success criteria, and what I should consider while having the conversation. Who this conversation is between, so in this case, I'm the customer service representative and I'm talking to the LinkedIn AI, who is the customer. Now, at any point in time, if you want to change this, you can click Edit and you can change any of these fields if you want to customize it and make it much more realistic to your particular situation. But this looks pretty good to me, so I'm going to cancel out of this. And another note, there's two other options here. You can share role plays by copying this link after clicking the Share button if you want to send this to somebody within your organization for them to practice. So now, I'm going to go ahead and start the role play conversation. Now, my conversation is going to be completely different from your conversation, but I want to go ahead and have that conversation so that I can show you what happens next. - [LinkedIn AI] I can't believe this. I bought this product just a week ago and it's already broken. I want a refund right now. This is unacceptable. - [Instructor] I'm really sorry to hear that the product that you purchased for me is broken. Can you tell me a little bit more about how it broke? Did it arrive broken, or did it break while you were using it? - [LinkedIn AI] It broke while I was using it. I barely used it for a few days and it just stopped working. I don't care about the details, I just want my money back. - [Instructor] I completely understand and apologize on behalf of the company. I'd need to know just a little bit more information. Can you tell me what you were doing when it broke, or provide any more detail about how it happened? Also note that while I'm having the conversation on this screen, you can have a voice conversation or you can also switch to a mode where you type back and forth. I'm going to go ahead and end this role play. And the next step is, after it analyzes the conversation, it's going to provide a feedback screen. So now that I've wrapped up my conversation with the role play, I'm on the feedback screen. And I do want to make a recommendation. The longer the conversation is that you have with the AI, the better this feedback screen will be. So I do recommend that you really try to practice that conversation as realistic as possible. You'll see it starts at the top with where I really did well, I was empathetic, professional, and I tried to solve their problem. It then goes into some areas of improvement. Where can I do better with this conversation? And this is really helpful information. Now, finally, you'll see there's feedback from the transcript. You'll see the exact details that I provided to the AI, and then it gives you conversation insights and examples. This is really helpful for going into the very specifics of how I can improve my conversation. At the bottom of the screen, you'll also see content recommendations. And so these are recommendations to help me learn and improve a little bit more so that I can watch some content and then come back and practice again. So now let me show you a few other kinds of role plays that you can access. I'm going to go back to the left rail and click on AI Role Play. And from this page, you'll remember we dove right into creating a custom role play, but you can also explore role plays that we have built with LinkedIn Learning experts. In the top right-hand corner, you'll see Explore role plays. If I click here, you'll see that we have built over 300 role plays, and these are built with LinkedIn Learning experts, and they're based on the most common workplace scenarios. You can click on any of these. So now that we are on a pre-built role play page, you'll see this looks very familiar to the custom one that we looked at earlier. However, there is one key difference. It is missing the Edit button in the bottom left-hand corner. Now, you can click on this pencil icon if you want to change the personality of the LinkedIn AI that you are having that conversation with. But otherwise, you cannot edit the standalone role plays that we have created with LinkedIn Learning instructors. Finally, many LinkedIn Learning courses also offer customized role plays built by the course instructor that can help you practice course topics while you're learning the course material. AI-powered role play offers a terrific way for you to practice a wide variety of challenging workplace scenarios. Give it a try today.
