Map your career journey and create your learning plan
- [Instructor] One of the most common things that I hear from professionals with regards to professional development or learning new skills is that they're willing and ready to learn new things, but they're not quite sure what it is that they're supposed to learn. This is where the career journey tab in LinkedIn Learning can be really helpful. On the left hand side, I'm going to navigate to My Career Journey, and this will bring me to My Career Journey page. Now, up at the top, the first thing I see here is my career goal. Next to it is this pencil icon, and I want to click to edit my career goal, something I recommend that you do. Now, you can choose between three different things and it's saying, what's your career goal for the next 6 to 12 months? Do you want to grow and advance in your current career, transition into a new career, or develop skills to manage teams? Now, I'm going to say that I want to stay at the organization I'm at, but I do want to become a manager, so I'm going to click here on this, and then I'll click continue. Now, this brings up a box saying, what is the title I want to transition into? And I'm going to say this, I want to be a project manager. I'll go ahead and select that and click continue. And next they're going to recommend different skills that I should have or develop if I want to be a project manager. Here's things like leadership. I can go ahead and click on these to follow them. Another one would be diversity and inclusion, interpersonal communication. These are all good, but I'm just selecting a few of them here. I'll go performance management, and when I'm done, I can click on finish. Now, once I've done that and set my career goal, let's take a look below this. On the right hand side, I see a box that says Progress, and zero of five skills completed. I have five skills, 15 courses recommended, for 12 hours and 43 minutes of content. Now, I can edit my skills anytime by clicking here, but if I look on the left, I can see My Learning Plan customized for me. Right now, I have coaching at the top and I can open or close that, and here are three courses they're recommending in coaching, coaching and developing employees, persuasive coaching, coaching skills for leaders and managers. Now, I can see that I did complete one of these, so that one's already done. Now, I can start learning and going through these and it will track my progress as I go. Below this is my next skill, interpersonal communication. I can expand that. And here I can see that it has courses related to this. The other nice thing is that if you want to add additional courses to your learning plan related to that skill, you can click here on the add skill and it will bring up skills related to this. You can use the filters and if you want, add them right to that list. You can see I have all of those different skills I added here. And if your organization has a premium account, they also will have the ability here to recommend content, so you may see content recommended by your organization. Below that, you have the Next Role Explorer where you can explore potential career paths. Here it's saying if I were a project manager, these are some of the things that I could go into. Maybe later I want to work my way into a senior project manager or a program manager, operations manager. Now, if I click on one of these, below that, it will then give me some insight into it. 14% of LinkedIn members in project manager roles made this transition, so, I can see that some people have done it. I have zero of the 10 skills right now, and they're showing me what they are over there. I would have to reassess if this is something I want to do, and if it is, I'm going to need to follow some of these skills so that I can start to learn them. So, that's how you can use that Next Role Explorer down at the bottom. Now in this case, I'm going to go back up to the top and click on the pencil icon. And I actually want to grow and advance in my current career. So, I'm going to click that and click continue, and it now has switched me back. It's asking if I want to add or get rid of any of these skills. I'll click finish. And if that's the case, then this is my personalized learning plan. I can see here I have seven skills, 21 courses. I can go down and see all of that, as well as my Next Role Explorer. So, take the time to customize this section and help LinkedIn Learning recommend and surface the most relevant content needed to help you reach your goals.
