Have you ever heard the saying, “You can't see the forest for the trees?” In consulting, this couldn't be more true. You need to move beyond the day-to-day details and show your client that you can see the big picture. When you position yourself as a trusted advisor, you'll start seeing organizations as interconnected systems. You'll build transparent relationships and authentically and empathetically relate to your stakeholders and their needs. Here's how to step back and approach client challenges through a strategic lens. First, use strategies to help you see the big picture, such as map organizational systems. You could use tools such as system maps or strategy maps to visually connect the dots between different functions and processes in the organization.
