What is the best image size for a webpage?
- I started designing websites in 2006 when the internet was a much simpler place. Back in those days, we knew exactly what size a webpage was because desktop computers and laptops all had roughly the same screen size and resolution. We knew how tall and wide to make a website's design so it would fit nicely on the screen. It was like having a painter's canvas. There were clearly defined edges of where the site would end and begin. Designing a website in the earlier days of the internet had some challenges. There were only eight fonts to choose from. But knowing the dimensions of a site wasn't a problem. Then, new devices with different size screens were released. Smartphones and tablets grew in popularity. The concept of setting a fixed size for a website started to make less and less sense. Sure, it would look great on a desktop or laptop computer, but what would the site look like on a smartphone?
