- [Instructor] Start the Registry Editor. Tap the Windows key or click the Start button and type "registry" and open this item, Registry Editor. click Yes if prompted with a UAC warning. Behold, the Registry Editor. It opens here to a specific category, which happens a lot. You can scroll up and collapse the categories, which I'm doing here. The Registry Editor is where various Windows and application settings are kept. It's a centralized location, which resolved an issue with older versions of Windows, where settings were kept all over the place. These settings are organized into major categories, called keys. The current user key, which I just collapsed and will now expand again, contains settings for your account when you signed into Windows. These are your preferences and other settings.
