- My path, had I stayed in Hawaii, would have been public elementary school, public intermediate school, public high school, probably University of Hawaii. I would have remained in Hawaii. I would have gone into, maybe politics, maybe tourism, agriculture, retailing. Those are the paths in Hawaii. So, this 6th grade teacher took me out of that. Put me into the private school system. I went to 'Iolani School. That's the school that Barack Obama could not get into. And, from there, 'Iolani and I have very vague recollections of why this happened, but somehow, somebody at 'Iolani convinced me to apply to Stanford. And I know I would not get into Stanford today, but somehow I got in, maybe it was so long ago that back then Japanese Americans were considered an oppressed minority. So I got into Stanford.
