Importing weather data with Ladybug
A Grasshopper plugin that analyzes weather data isn't much use without weather data. So where do we get that? One great place is the Ladybug Tools website, which has this really nice EPW map tool. This gives us access to many kinds of different weather data sets from all over the world. I've already gone ahead and zoomed in near my hometown of Detroit, Michigan. So I'm just going to zoom in a little bit closer here and see what we've got. So each of these little dots is a dataset, and they're color coded based on the format and the contents of the dataset. You can see over on the left here, there's all sorts of different tags for different types of datasets. Generally, TMY format is usually going to be the most complete, but the kind that you want is obviously going to depend on the particular simulation you're trying to run. For example, if you're studying climate change impacts on energy use in buildings, you'll likely want the most recent dataset that's available. On the other…
