Filter a pivot table using a search filter
- [Narrator] Pivot tables can summarize huge data collections, but many times you'll want to limit the data displayed within a given category. For example, if you have a set of projects, you might want to limit the display to only one, or perhaps a list of projects that all start with the same letter or letters. In this movie, I will show you how to create this type of search filter. My sample file is 02_04 SearchFilter, and you can find it in the Chapter 2 folder of the exercise files collection. This workbook contains two worksheets. The first is the data on sheet one, and the second is pivot table 2 with, as the name implies, the pivot table which you see here. I have it broken down by year, and then by project, and then the sum of actual labor. Let's say that I want to use a search filter to identify projects that start with a given letter, in this case, perhaps the letter M.
