Filter a pivot table using a filter field
- [Instructor] Whenever you add a field to a pivot table's column area, row area or values area, you change the pivot table's structure by adding a level of detail. But suppose you have a great pivot table layout and don't want to change the structure by creating a filter. You can do that by adding a filter field and create the filters using that control. I'll demonstrate how to create a filter using a filter field in this movie. My sample file is 0205 filter field and that's a workbook you can find in the chapter two folder of the exercise files collection. I'm on the pivot table 2 worksheet and you can see that my pivot table is broken down by year, then by month. And to make sure the values sort correctly I use a field called month sort that I created elsewhere in this course. And then I have the sum of actual labor for each month within a year. If I want to create a filter, perhaps to break it down by quarter, without adding quarter to the body of the pivot table, I can do so…
