How to select an architectural style
- When it comes to architecture, you have a major choice you need to make. And that's which style of architecture will you use? Will you use a layer approach, or a column approach? With a layer approach, you cover background, and then something is changed, and then your core idea, which is the ultimate idea that you're trying to support. You'll select a layer approach in two situations. First, the audience needs to be grounded, they don't have background on your recommendation or even what the issue is. So when you choose a layer approach for that ungrounded audience, the first thing you do is set context in the background section. You tell them how the business is performing, you tell them what resources you've got available, all that context that they'll need to agree with your core idea. Then you talk about what's changed that's led you to look at the situation you're making a recommendation on, it could be something bad happened in the organization, or there's a great opportunity…
